A SUCCESSFUL POSITIVE LOITERING EVENT

On last Thursday (June 18), the 1200 E. Block of 71st Place was the site of a “Community Cookout” – a positive loitering event, co-hosted by the 003 District Police, 5th Ward Alderman Hairston, Acclivus, Inc., and the South Oakwood-Brookhaven Neighborhood Organization (SOBNO).

Residents of the block had sought increased police presence to investigate indications of criminal activity, as well as heightened police responsiveness combat violations of sanitation code, noise and the nuisance ordinances.

The event facilitated interactions between neighbors with similar concerns, and with police serving the area, as well as with the alderman and the staff of the 5th Ward office.

Areas residents enjoyed free food, music, chess games and a mask giveaway.

SOBNO President Willie Jones, Jr. and SOBNO member Sam Binion coordinated the event with other sponsors and the residents of the 1200 block of East 71st Place are grateful for the attention to their concerns.
