We Took a Fun Trip to the Blue Chip and the Lighthouse Mall!

It was another day of fun, food, gaming and shopping at the beautiful Blue Chip Hotel, Casino & Spa and Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets Michigan City, IN.

Some of us got lucky, and some of us got bargains, but fun was had by all!

You should plan to make the trip with us next year and get a jump on your holiday shopping and share camaraderie with us on the trip there and back.

2019 Pathways To Excellence Event Boasts a Full House!

On Saturday, October 19th, current and former residents of South Oakwood-Brookhaven "packed the house" for our 2019 Community Reunion Recognition and Scholarship Awards Luncheon at Dynasty Banquets in Hammond.

Our Esther Johnson College Scholarship award winners, Jeremiah Wright and Kevin Butler and their family members were present for the festivities, along with many, many community members.

Entertainment was provided by dynamic singer K.B. Evans (herself a former resident of our community!) and her band who gave a fantastic  crowd-pleasing performance.

Young Timothy Magsby, also on the program, gave an inspiring dance peformance that drew applause throughout.

For the first time, the Organization presented the Brian A. Leach Pursuit of Excellence award to a member of the community whose efforts serve to improve life for residents of South Oakwood-Brookhaven. The award is presented in honor of neighborhood icon and basketball legend Brian Leach, whose youth mentorship in the community was well known during his lifetime.

Award recipient Michael McDowell (aka "White Mike") was recognized for his mentorship of young men in the area and for his assistance to people,  young and old, in the community.

If you weren't there, you missed a great afternoon of good food, good music, and fun with a message. You won't want to miss the next one!
