Boy... U guys are really hard on each other around here! Cool

I'm in my 40's, and I think I turned out OK.... Did I get my butt whupped when I was a kid? Hell yes I did! Mouth off, get spanked. Do something you know you're not s'posed to, get spanked. Man, anyone remember Sensodyne toothpaste back 30 yrs ago?? Nasty red crap. Instead of soap, my Mom used to rub that in my mouth when I lipped off. Gosh I HATED that.

How many wooden spoons that my Mom had to replace, or the times I heard, *You just wait until your Dad gets home* and watch out the window to see when he came up the driveway to know I had a spanking coming. But You know what? Anytime Dad spanked me, he always came up later and said he was sorry. But I knew I had it coming.

Numerous people have said, and I agree, these days, kids think they're untouchable. I have a few police friends. I have talked to them numerous times about my son.  As long as you don't leave a mark on your child that last for 24 hrs, you have the RIGHT to DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILD. AND I DON'T MEAN CHILD ABUSE!!!!!!!! That means that if your 15 yr old tells you to F-OFF in your face, you can slap him right across the chops. Slap DOESN'T mean smack, punch, jab, etc. It means the same slap I got when I was a kid. It means that YOU are their parent, and YOU will NOT take that kind of disrespect from them. Dang, I still remember those slaps from Mom. You kinda learned to just SHUTUP! Embarassed

No, the schools aren't to blame. There is so much pressure on Teachers these days. It's the way society has told us how we can raise our children. Granted, I don't believe in beating, or child abuse. I think those who do that should be tortured in the same way.

Man, you know how many times I got spanked in a public store when I was a kid? You really think my Mom did it to be a bad mother? Or did she do it because I was being A little sh*t? Wanting this, wanting that, touching things I was told 12 times not to touch. Now what would happen if you saw that happen at WalMart today? YUP! The Cops would be there in a heartbeat, and the parent led out of the store in HANDCUFFS for child abuse!! Bullcrap!

THAT'S WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!!!!!

Not arguing with anyone. Just giving my opinion.

Cool

Jr

It is tough on everyone.....I agree a parent should be able to swat their kids butt.  I have been in a store or restaurant many times and seen way too many kids that need a swat.  BUT, the parent can't "swat" the brat's butt.....

There is a difference in a swat and a beating...to the parents...but the kids and DHS see it differently.

About 7 years ago, a very good friend of mine sent her son to school with a red mark on his cheek.  Later that day she had a visit from DHS.  The teacher didn't believe that her son was wrestling outside with his cousins over the weekend.  The cousins were visiting from out of town and the teacher didn't know of any cousins because my friend had moved to Muscatine 3 years before from S Dakota. When my friend explained to her visitor what had happened, it wasn't enough.  She went through the big interrogation, because  that was required when a call is made.

She did find out some interesting facts though....you CANNOT soap your kids mouth (didn't hurt me much, I just can't use Dial soap to this day and I am in my 40's)....you CANNOT punish your kids with any kind of physical contact. No wooden spoons, wooden hairbrush's, or swatting paddles either.

You CAN take away things for punishment, but whatever you do don't take any meals!

I am sure this all came to be because there are kids who are beaten, which is very sad.  Sadder yet is the parents who never would beat their kids are not allowed to dicipline with a swat or a bar of soap and the parents who are abusive, they will still be abusive.

Maybe the powers that be would like to raise our kids for us...

Perhaps they will be soon enough. Maybe that fiasco in Eldorado Texas is just a practice run.

I read all the opions and I think if the parents do the job they are suppose to then their children will know  whats right and wrong.I raised 7 kids and the youngest is now 28.Most of the time I raised them without a man around.I can truthfully say I am very proud of them all. When we went in pubic places they knew not to run and to stay by me.Parents need to show more love and less violence.Pay more attention to your kids.Tell them you love them and mean it.The teachers have a hard enough job for what they are paid to teach, they should not have to worry about raising our kids too.If you raise your kids right they will grow up to be good parents  also. Its all about love and showing it.
