A Short History of Ridgefields...

The concept of a country club and golf course surrounded by a subdivision was conceived in the 1930's and came to fruition in 1950. Mr. Earle Sumner Draper prepared the Ridgefields plan in 1930 or 1931 and he described it as his largest venture in Kingsport with the area having approximately 2000 acres, nestled between Bays Mountain and the Holston River. The area now known as Ridgefields Neighborhood was the Ridgefields Farm, owned by Mr. C.P. Edwards. The farm was once home to cows, horses, peacocks, and quail. The white, two-story farmhouse overlooked the river and was located near the present day golf shop at The Club at Ridgefields.

Original access to the area was by Riverport Road. However, when the road would wash out, the only access was a ferry at the base of Ridgefields Country Club until the Ridgefields Road bridge was built. The bridge is named in memory of Mr. C.P. Edwards. The neighborhood was annexed in the late 1960's. According to census tract data for 1980, Ridgefields was the most properous neighborhood with the average income being $40,000.

The area around Ridgefields Neighborhood has grown to include other single family homes and condominiums such as Chippendale Square, Ridgefields Manor, Fleetwood Manor, The Birches, Huntington Hills, Huntington Woods, and Amersham.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

We are REALTORS® with Blue Ridge Properties and residents of Ridgefields! As residents in this community, we wanted a way to communicate with our neighbors about garage sales, lost dogs, fun events, safety warnings, and other helpful information. We hope this website will be an avenue for current residents to get to know each other better and for potential residents to see why this is such a great place to live! Please let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions! We welcome your contributions! We look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood! Please contact us anytime for your real estate needs and for information on living in Ridgefields.

Best wishes,
