Journal continues the ''rip off''

No, Dave

No, Dave...''support'' for a commercial entity does not come first. First comes the quality of the (service)or (material) they are offering. Support is only then determined in the value received by a reading customer. Only then will support go up or down. Looks like reader support is going down by the posts here.

Don't forget the other side of the equation...the advertising. Retailers and service industries and persons advertising thru classifieds have a stake in it all too. They must see results. Which ads do you readers see continually from stores, companies, or services offered? If it did not work, I doubt you would keep seeing these repeat business ads...even with the online version.

New Reporters would...

be a big step in the right direction. That is reporters that could actually find the news if it's not handed to them.

It's Not Just The Journal

As I said to my wife yesterday, ''there seems to be less real content in the Sunday QC times lately. If you take out the ads and the classified section, there is very little.
Newspapers, as we know them today are soon to be a thing of the past. Another 10 or 15 years will see many of them, even some of the biggest, out of business.

As both advertiser and reader

I think the problem started when the Journal was sold to someone outside of the city. Now Lee Enterprises is trying to get big market rates in a small market area. And it just isn't going to work. There is absolutely no bang for your buck advertising with the Journal. So we seldom do. They can't get advertising rates so I guess they have to up the price of the paper.
