I think it's

very much worth the money. True it's not the QC Times, but Muscatine isn't in the QC. We want it to be about our town, correct? This means we need to support any efforts made to give the residents a paper. Personally I never knew how they existed on .50cents a paper. As subscriptions grow so can stories, events, community involvement, and many other related things including a better value for your few cents. First comes support.

But the Journal is a MONOPOLY

It has no competition except for itself. It has a small number of subscribers when considering it has no competition. Why si that? I think because it's a very poor value.
Sure, costs increase but what would the Journal editorialize (if they ever did)if say the city raised thier property tax by 50% as they chose to raise their price?
Sure prices go up, but I think a 50% increase with no additional value in terms of local news is a rip off of the highest order. This is why Monopolies, such as MPW cable are never, never good for consumers. Competiotn brings better prices, better service, and with newspapers, better locla coverage. Any moron can print news off the AP wire.

Quilted Northern

It's cheaper and you get more info from reading the package :-)
Hello

how do you expect Lee Enterprises to pay for the new editor they recently installed? With a new editor comes new ideas, new reporters and new writers. Someone has to pay for that. Don't believe me? Wait until you file your taxes this year! That is one of life's few certainties besides dying. Taxes and price gouging. Its the All-American way of conducting business any more.
