At our last City Council Meeting Councilman Greg Claypool brought up an item that our citizens should be made aware of.
As everyone can see the widening of Westport Road is progressing and soon the Highway Department is going to open up the new paved road for travel, so that they can begin work on the old section of Westport Road. As Councilman Claypool said, It is hopeful that the Stop Signs will be moved back to the City Intersections to allow traffic coming out of Woodlawn Park to stop before moving out onto Westport Road. It was suggested that our residents should slowly approach the new section of Westport Road before exiting onto Westport Road.
Right now it is advisable for our residents to be aware that while pulling out from our city streets onto the new section of Westport Road that Construction Trucks are using the new section of Westport Road to haul material such as gravel and concrete. If one of these trucks hits a car broadside injuries will happen. I observed two trucks traveling South on the new section of Westport Road and they did now slow down at the intersections of our City. As I said earlier if a car pulls out in front of one of these trucks injuries will happen.
Please be careful while exiting our City Streets, and please look both ways before entering the newly paved areas of Westport Road that is under construction.
If I read or hear when the change to traffice patterns on Westport Road is going to `occur I will notify our residents.
George Langford-Councilman
