Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor
Rosedale

DPS is looking for ideas on what to do with Rosedale.

At this point, it almost seems that they've decided not to reopen it as a school.

Steele Elementary, just two districts away, has started to get overcrowded for the first time in 35 years.  My feeling is that this pressure will spread south over time, and Rosedale will be needed.

Asbury and McKinley Thatcher are apparently pushing 80% capacity.

What to do?

Keep your eye on this website for more information about the future of Rosedale.  The city wants our input, even though at the last meeting they didn't have anyone who could answer our questions

Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor

What I have heard, and I am sure you know more about this than I Kevin, is that it is too expensive to reopen it as a school. They had an offer for a school being there 2 years ago and it was turned down because it is cheaper keeping it like it is now. I do not think a lot of people from the Steele neighborhood filter into this area and the schools...they have Cory and Lincoln right near by. When Asbury and McKinley Thatcher start to get overcrowded, and on waitlists, than the city will probably look into it. Will that be too late, probably. I think the people who need to start becoming more vocal about it are the ones right near it in Harvard Gulch. It is such a beautiful school and such a waste of space right now.
