ALERT! RE::Mailbox 40th and Clybourn

There is a notice on the mail box located at 40th and Clybourn that it will be REMOVED JANUARY 3rd. They want us to take our mail to 35th and St. Paul. A really safe alternative for theelderly and disabled!

There is a number you can call on the box regarding this: 287-1999.

PLEASE call and protest this as soon as possible! This is yet another service that supports the viability of our neighborhood. First it was the Route 13 bus and the Neighborhood newspaper box. We pay more and more taxes and more and more of our neighborhood services disappear. Lets tell them we need our mailbox!a

It seems like they are trying to pull a fast one by notifying folks over the holidays when they are very busy and may not pay attention or be too busy to call.

They tried to pull this off a few years ago. Because we had many neighbors call and the Alderman intervened we were able to keep it. So please call the Alderman as well: 286-3763.

I saw that notice, on the mailbox, today when I mailed my bills. I do not understand why it is that hard for the mail carrier who is delivering the mail to pick up the mail from the box.

Lets think outside the box a little. It's bad enough that we do not have service everyday. I know we are at the end of a route and sometimes we do not have a regular carrier assigned to us. I get sales notices after the sale. Some bills come really close to the date they must be mailed.

I will be calling Monday.

We have the same problem with time sensitive mail coming close to a due date-or after! Also sometimes ALL the mail is left at the front door if you happen to have a small package which is not good=put letters in the box don't be lazy.

I don't know if the neighborhood carrieriers still pick up the mail from the box after their route here-we see a mail truck come sometimes after 1pm which is the pickup time and empty the box. If they are sending a separate truck just to pickup that is so inefficient!

I several times I have put my out-going mail in my mail box with about half of the letters sticking out.   The postal carrier will take the mail when he delivers our mail.  The only time it hasn't been picked up is when we have have no mail, so they pass by the house.  But that is when I do walk to the mail box on 40th & Clybourn and drop it in the box.
