Teacher's contract question

Posted in: PATA
When does the current contract with the teacher's union expire? I think that it is this year.

Is there any indication as to how negotiations will go?

Given that the teachers were not willing to give any concessions during the most recent fiscal crunch, I hope that their kindness and generosity will be repaid.
Concessions?

Were the teachers approached by the adminstration about giving concessions? I do not think so. If they were... post it here.

Did you volunteer concessions at your job because the cost of gas has increased 30% this year to help out your companies bottom line? If not, why should they ''volunteer'' concessions in theirs? I'll guess your company may have charged more for the product to recoup the costs. It works the same way in the schools and the community is the customer.
Concessions

Well that's the difference between teaching and the real world. The teachers union is so strong that they have to agree to give up certain things like paying more for health insurance premiums or stupid things like co-pays!

Whereas my company doesn't approach me about such things - they just increase the costs, cut benefits, give piddly raises or whatever they want to. I can't stand out on the street whining about contracts else I'll lose my job, unlike teachers!

organize

Sounds like you need a union.
