Political Stupidity
If Brink has smarts, then he's hiding them. To the outside eye, it appears as though Brink has no idea how to speak publicly. It also appears as though he's perhaps a bit power-hungry.
In all actuality, the district has been proud of the test scores, until this year. Their web site still has ''Excellent'' posted on it. Brink's comments seem to say ''We're number 2, and we're not trying any harder''. If this is your reality, I'm glad I don't live there. The sadder fact is that our property values are intimately tied to the state test scores, and we now have a board president-wannabe who doesn't seem to understand that.
I've been to the state department of education web site and am well aware of what is posted there. Now go find a breakdown of how the school bond issues and levies fared in the Columbus precincts. How will Mr. Brink be able to sell the next levy - possibly this year - to all the voters he disenfranchised before he even took office?
I do know that Bruce Rigelman had no such agenda against the Columbus children.
So tell me, what do we want the Columbus children to learn out of this? That they are second rate and deserve a second rate education? That the better teachers who are able to successfully teach to the test will be teaching the wealthier families?
It seems that this new reality you are embracing is giving away quite a bit, like hope. Once hope is gone, what's left? Is it really fair to drag children through their parents' neuroses?
It's sad when the adults act like kids.
It's too bad Northness had to withdraw from the race. He was the most qualified. It's also too bad Bruce Rigelman didn't seek another term due to health reasons. Those two would have been a powerful force, allied with Gail Oakes. Now we have to take what we've got.
