PLSD Doesn't Want Excellence

For shame

Now, don't you feel bad now that Casual Observer set you straight? Shame, shame, shame on you. Make your apologies, pronto.
Sucker born every minute

Jim Brink spent the 2001 election thinking his long time friend, Mark Uher, supported him only to find out that Mark Uher was supporting Wes Monhollen when he placed his name on an ad stating the obvious to Mr. Brink. Is Mr. Brink being suckered once more? I am afraid so. Wes Monhollen is out to destroy the relationship between what was a majority of the new school board by telling Mr. Brink there can't be any kind of consensus with Gail Oakes as President. Obviously Mr. Monhollen wants to divide his opposition and he found the weak link. He is playing Mr. Brink like a drum.

Apparently Lisa Reade has bought in on this and she is not much better in judging sincerity. Please be reminded that Mrs. Reade in 2001 pushed the idea of a Community Authority. Once that C.A. came out it in 2003 it did more for the builders than our schools. Lisa had a very hard time opposing the issue. She was invited to the original meetings with Lou Postage and Wes Monhollen. Without seeing the details see signed on to the C.A. and it took a lot of convincing from Bruce Rigelman and Lisa's husband to tell her the numbers didn't add up. Lisa Please take the time to think this completely through about your support of Jim Brink for school board president.

Jim and Lisa if you think you are getting heat from this web site you haven't seen anything yet. Lisa you have stated that you formed Community First to solve our community problems and that group is now where? Who was on that committee with you? Right; Wes Monhollen. You know that Wes is a friend of Lou Postage and I get very angry when I hear you do gooders say you are going to try and work with these people.

To the both of you. You won't form a consensus with Wes Monhollen and Lori Sanders. If you try you will only damage your own support groups and the relationship that you have had with this community. Gail Oakes is the only board member that has actually stood up to Wes and she supported both of your for your election bid. Now being the MOST qualified and experienced on the school board you claim she is unfit to lead. Loyalty runs both ways Lisa and Jim.

Drop this stupid idea that you know what you are doing with these others on the school board. They will stall and get in your way over the next two years until you are the ones looking bad. You will use up your political capital on a poorly thought out idea. I am disappointed that I helped you both get elected.

I thought you both ran on ethics. If you didn't think Gail was capable before you ran why did you accept her help? Why did you accept the help of her many supporters that also supported you two? Why didn't you state that to us before we sent you money and spent the weekends putting out your signs and campaign materials?

Maybe we are the ones that were gullable?

In Context

The comments were taken in the context in which they were given. They are public comments published in a circulated newspaper.

Just because someone supports his own special needs child does not mean he would support the education of all special needs children.

What demographics was he referring to? Low income homes? Two income homes? Geography? Age? Race?

What is the definition of special needs children? Learning disabled? ADHD? Low IQ? Autism? Prone to violence?

Why are some school districts throughout the state able to maintain excellent ratings while others fall in their ratings?

I know of a family in Pickerington that had to pull their special needs child out of school so the mother could homeschool the child because the school would not support their needs.

Comparing this to Jesse Jackson being paged to a white phone IS completely out of context.

Brink needs to explain himself.
Brink has got smarts

Jim Brink has attended most all of the school board meetings for a number of years and he is smart and can figure things out.... even Wes. Don't think they can sucker him in, he is not a sucker, too smart for that kind of play.

He is going to express his opinion, you may disagree with it, but he does his homework to support his positions and does not shoot from the hip.

We have chased these stupid state test scores for too long, at the expense of other important programs that benefit to all students. Just look at the list of administrators in the district, many of them have the sole job responsibility to align the curriculum to the tests, tests which are the subject of great debate as to their value and nature. What exactly do we want for our kids, the ability to be sucessful in society, or the ability to tell everyone they passed these state tests.

We have to deal with the sad fact that these state tests are the cards the district is dealt, but I think I am glad that somebody is looking at reality, and seeing that we have given a lot away to chase these test scores. We can do better. Go to the state department of education web site and view individual PLSD school scores. The demographics will stare you right in the face in black and white.
