COMMUNITY CLOTHES CLOSET

We didn't lose our Community Clothes Closet, it just moved.
he clothes closet has been up and running since May of 2005, but has had to move their location of operation about four times over the years, before finding their current location at the Central Park Presbyterian Church at 312 17th Street NE Lower Level. A fellow member of this church took it upon himself to speak to the church's administration. Kindly, they offered the Clothes Closet their noe, new home, and location. The Clothes Closet has only been at this location since January 2007.
To use the Clothes Closet, there is no criteria that one has to meet to be helped, and there is no limit on how many items you can take. As long as your family can use the items, you can take what you want. aaaaathe Clothes Closet has helped so many different needs in the Neighborhoods over the past.
For instance, ading Hurricane Katrina victims that have moved into the area. Providing clothes and some household items.
The Salvation Army has asked many times for the Clothes Closet to assist those that are in need also. I am sure that many of us have had children coming home from school with some winter item that wasn't theirs and wondering where they got that. The Clothes Closet provides the Cedar Rapids School districts winter items for children that do not bring any to school. When the children in school have recess and they have forgotten their mittens, hats, or boots the nurse will provide these items to the child and if they need to keep them, they may.
The Clothes Closet proves more and more to be a valuable resource and serves as a definite asset in our community.
Current items that the Clothes Closet has on hand is: Namely clothes and more! Winter hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, boots, coats, snow pants, socks, jeans, purses, belts, etc...
They also have some household items, which they do ask s small donation for. This will help in their costs of operation. The donation amount is totally up to you.
The Clothes Closet serves as a referral service as well. For example: If you need a couch, the Colthes Closet will contact individuals by phone that they know that have a good used couch that they want to get rid of. Then they will tell them of an individual that has a need of a couch. Contact information will be given to the persons wanting to donate the item that is in need, and arrange for the person needing the said item, to pick it up. The Clothes Closet would love to have the room to store such items as furniture in their current location. However, this is not currently possible. So the need for slightly used furniture is a huge need.
Needed items that the Clothes Closet could use: books, children's books, household items and knick knacks, jewelry, kitchen items, towels, sheets, bedspreads.
So if you are gearing up to get some organizing done in your homes, or getting an early start on your spring cleaning, these items could find a useful and much needed home by donating to the Clothes Closet.
Hope to see you soon. Drop by and take a look for yourself!
