Visually Challenged but Looking for A Job?

Esight Career Network

Now is the time to
apply for eSight Careers Network's "How to Use Online
Networking as a Job Search Tool," a course designed to help
participants develop and practice their online job marketing
skills.

This is the latest development of eSight Careers Network,
www.eSight.org, and will provide eSight members with
interactive online classes, seminars, and other resources
in 2007 to help them gain meaningful employment, according
to Nancy O'Connell, executive director of The Associated
Blind, Inc., parent organization of eSight Careers Network.

"How to Use Online Networking as a Job Search Tool" focuses
on key skills for "creating your personal brand, building
your portfolio and cultivating your contacts to find the
internship or job that's right for you," says O'Connell.

This 10-week interactive course, O'Connell adds, will require
at least five hours a week to complete assignments. During
the class participants will build contact lists, research
companies, develop an online portfolio, and practice personal
branding and networking skills. They will also receive
individualized coaching by a facilitator who has first-hand
experience in disability employment issues.

Jim Hasse, eSight's senior content developer and facilitator
for the course, created the curriculum for "How to Use Online
Networking as a Job Search Tool" with this premise in mind:
The more you interact online, make networking a habit, gain
insight into practical employment job-seeking strategies,
establish a career focus and achieve visibility for your
particular expertise the quicker you'll find meaningful work.

This online course is for job seekers who:

- Have established clear career goals.
- Have online experience using interactive venues.
- Are enthused about taking classes online.
- Have a resume or an offering statement.
- Are able to devote five or more hours a week for 10 weeks
to complete the course work.

To be considered for this class, individuals must meet the
following basic requirements: a college degree or equivalent,
time availability, demonstration of initial work in
developing a career and a track record that shows diligence
in attending to this class and completing its assignments.

Participation in this course and all future instructor-led
courses on eSight Careers Network requires membership in the
eSight eLearning Program. Membership fees are $18 for six
months or $24 a year.

Those who are accepted as one of the "How to Use Online
Networking as a Job Search Tool" participants will become
charter members of the new eSight eLearning Program.

The privileges of membership in the eSight eLearning Program,
according to O'Connell, include:

1. Interacting with a unique network of learners who take
responsibility for developing their own careers and are
willing to provide feedback for other members of the
group about specific employment issues.

2. Having access to valuable global resources about
career management from a disability perspective, much of
it generated by eSight members who draw upon real-world
experiences.

3. Gaining valuable visibility among employers for a
participant's online portfolio on a high-traffic area of
eSight through ongoing interactivity with members.

4. Accessing expertise about disability employment issues
through the ability, as alumnae, to monitor eLearning
telephone conference calls with guest speakers for all
eLearning courses.

5. Accessing self-paced classes, which will be available
through the eSight Learning Program.

Those who wish to be considered as a potential participant
for the "How to Use Online Networking as a Job Search Tool"
course must complete the online application at:
http://www.esight.org/forward.cfm?pid=278

Phone interviews will be required for all finalists.

The application deadline is January 19, 2007. Phone
interviews will be scheduled during the week of January 22.
The class will start on January 29, 2007.

O'Connell says eSight will offer additional eLearning classes
throughout 2007 to help individuals with their job searches.

The Associated Blind, Inc., a 69-year-old non-profit
organization, has been providing members of eSight Careers
Network opportunities to collaborate on disability employment
issues through accessible online discussions and resource
building since October 2000.
