The legislation that just passed the Iowa House that bans smoking in restaurants and bars?  They exempted Casinos, which I think isn't fair.  I think the bad should have included every public place.

It's not fair for those who don't smoke but work in these places to be required to breathe second hand smoke.  I think it should be an OSHA violation.  I'm not sure anyone has a valid argument against the dangers of secondhand smoke, if so I haven't heard it.  I'd never let my teenager work in a place like Applebees with all the smoke that is laughingly confined to the smoking section.

The Button Factory si smoke free and busy every night, so this lame argument that smoking bans drive away business just doesn't work.  Smokers may have a right to smoke, but non-smokers also have a right not to breathe it.

 In my opinion the senate version will be much different than the house version ( no knowledge just my opinion.) That money does carry weight.

I have been to Applebees one time and had to get the busy boy ( who got the tip from me because the waitress was only interested in serving drinks and I had twice asked her for a iced tea. I will not go back.

On February 2 at 3:30 pm we went to the button factory and there were 4 other people there making a total of 8. The food was OK but the service sucked because we had to go find the waiter twice to get more cornbread and ice tea.

I will not be back there again because I feel we were paying a good price and did not get the service. I had been told it was going down hill there and I believe they were right. I have never seen both lots full for months.

I feel the owner should make  the smoking or non smoking decision. There is not a resturant or bar that offers you any benefits to stay if you do not like the policy. You are a independent contractor that can be fired with no reason given at any time.  If I am out with smoking friends we set in the smoking section and if I am with non smoking friends we set in the non smoking section as I have friends of each.

What is next overweight people can only eat fruits and vegetables? Bars and resturant's can serve drinks till you have to crawl out to your car and run over me. That .08 law sure helped me as the driver probably did not have insurance.

Just my thoughts. Oh yes I smoke and I do  drink two or 3 beers at times, but i do have a designated driver when I do.

Salvatore's has been smoke free for awhile and I think when they did it their in house customers went up. Because of the new rules. I think most normal people dont smoke when they eat out. If you cant wait to have a smoke your  weak and have a problem.

I have some majorthoughts on this, but, don't even know where to start.  My knee jerk reaction is to say, make smoking illegal, and then let the State legislature (and Feds for that matter), figure out where all of the billions of dollars of tax revenue is going to come from!  Obviously you can tell that I'm a smoker.  Back in 1972, Minnesota started the designated smoking area in restuarants.  A big part of the deal was "adequate" air handling in the facility.  I remember when smoking was allowed on planes (cigarettes even furnished), with little or no trouble in such an "enclosed" area.  I AMvery cognisant of the "non-smoking" publics' right to clean air, but, I truely believe that the smoking public also has rights (since tabacco is a legal substance).  And, when you're talking about polluting MY air, lets NOT forget about the tremendous amount of pollution makers on our streets and highways (that nobody really seems to give a sh t about!  And THEN you have the factories that spew out tons of pollution into our air AND water, but then again, that's BIG MONEY, so, that's ok! 

What I'd like to see, is smoking ONLY bars, and restuarants!  And FINALLY......I had a grandmother who died from lung cancer back in 1959.  NEVER smoked a day in her life, nor was she EVER around anyone who did!  Since then, I have had SEVERAL family members live to a ripe old age, who smoked, and never developed lung cancer.  There's a lot more to it than just smoking!  There's got to be some genetics in there somewhere, and some "other" contributing factors. 

I'm just saying that there should be more to this, than some legislature that is collecting tax money and then telling you that it's illegal to "use".    Have a GREAT day.
