Well Herman, how about

The proposals at the state level on the upcoming legislative session and budget issues? You know, those things that effect everyone, and not just the cute kid in the window and the 2 other people who found it to be ''news.''

I beleive that if you

will look at Mondays paper and Tuesdays there were articles in both regarding the legislative sessions. The Journal is a LOCAL paper. It has never portrayed itself as competing with the Register or QC Times. At least I dont recall any such claims. I read the Register daily and they did not have much more coverage that the Journal did on this topic. Remember the Legislature has only been in session 2 day. How much news can they have generated?

I guess my suggestion is to not subscribe to the paper you dont like. Kind of like not tuning into radio and tv stations you dont like. Life is really pretty simple if you think about it. Dont like brocolli? Dont buy it. Simple isnt it?

Excellent ideas

but from what I can see from others comments, is this really news or is it investigative reporting? You obviouslly have had some experience with identity theft and the police that was not to your liking. Is that because you didnt like the outcome or is it because they were unwilling? I dont know but it would make a good story. Did you talk to a reporter? How would they know about it if you didnt?

Someone is going to say they are not interested in this kind of thing. No matter what you come up with someone here is going to complain.

I suggest you contact the Journal and urge them to do these kinds of stories.

OK, you win Herman

I'm sorry I brought the discussion up. You obviously know much more about what is and what is not news then I, as well as what sort of items are of ''news value.''
I'll look forward to more ''feel good'' front page above the fold stories. Afterall, nothing ever happens in Muscatine that deserves a hard look.
