Objectives
> Create a positive image of Charlotte East

> Spur economic growth in Charlotte East

> Encourage affordable and desirable mixed-use housing

> Develop and expand neighborhood amenities

> Nurture community pride

Created an East Charlotte vision
| Developed the East Area Council of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce

| Enhanced neighborhood and business beautification through our Annual Beauty Contest

| Assisted neighborhoods through our neighborhood outreach program; provided information on how to obtain needed services and respond to planning and zoning issues

| Adopted selected schools in East Charlotte

| Interacted with local police officers

| Co-sponsored the All American Jazz Sing with the Charlotte Choral Society

| Promoted planned growth by requesting and obtaining a new revision for the East Charlotte Corridor plan -- which resulted in The Eastside Strategies Plan -- which resulted in streetscape improvements on Albemarle Road and Central

| Sponsored a candidates forum in 1996, and co-sponsored forums in 1997, 2000, and 2001

| Created strength in numbers

Immediate priorities
| To promote equitable treatment of the corridors for the new transit system

| To promote the improvement of Eastland Mall and surrounding areas

| To monitor the City's Locational Policy so that we do not receive a disproportionate number of low-income housing

| To monitor group home policies

| To work with the City and developers and give input on requested rezonings
