We received a flyer from the WLHNA urging residents to attend the Tuesday (3/4/08) City Council Meeting to support Chesapeake Energy's request for a high impact gas well permit.

Our home has a view of the ugly drilling station at the former ARC Park, and we hear the noise day and night and smell the awful fumes coming from it. Maybe some residents who aren't as close to the station as we are might care about getting their "full" share of any money coming from profits, but Chesapeake and other drillers can't get out of this area fast enough for me. I don't care about any residual money. Our home might be on the front line of being damaged in the event of any kind of accident happened at the site.

I have had headaches and sickness since they started pumping at the drill site. Drilling is a filthy, poisonous business, and we didn't move to WLH to have to endure it.

I was very disappointed that the White Lake Hills Board made a stand to support the high impact well located in the former Arc Park.  I think that the general membership should have had a chance to voice their opinion.

I went to council and did not support this issue.  Chesapeake Energy was asking for a waiver to drill into a city park.  Chesapeake was over the 600 foot mark.  The Executive Board, Chesapeake Energy and Councilman Scarth met in advance to drum up support of this issue.  Our general membership was informed by a flier distributed by the Executive Board.  Some streets did not receive a flier.

Council passed the waiver.  This has given Cheaspeake Carte Blanche to our neighborhood.  There is a risk of contaminating our water table, the park land, and clear-cutting more of the area off E 1st Street.  This was not for just one well but for 4 wells.

Greed is not the important issue.  We should be looking at the safety of our neighborhood and the preservation of our environment.
