Pearsall Road Park Update Meeting

May 31, 2002

On Wed, May 15th, Parks & Recreation held an update meeting on the latest status of the Pearsall Road Park. [As you may remember, last year, SWCA was instrumental in getting $320K of funds in this year?’s budget to complete Phase I of the master plan.] Unfortunately, because of additional requirements delineated by TNRCC, and changes in which city department was responsible for the site, the amount is no longer expected to provide all of the work in the original Phase I. As it stands now, Phase I will develop an approximately 1-acre dog park (for use of all San Antonio?’s dog owners). This is ?“a first?” for San Antonio and we?’re hoping it will help people from other parts of the city recognize the good points of our area. It will also develop an overlook area, called ?“Sunrise Overlook?”. Additionally, it will provide for entry gate & fencing, dog park gates & fencing; a graded ADA-accessible hike-bike path to the overlook, picnic tables, shade, drinkable water, and parking. The Dog Park will also contain Rules of Behavior (for dogs & owners), and a kiosk to provide clean-up materials. Many questions were asked, most were answered, or will be answered in a follow-up meeting. When asked about how long it would take to complete this revised Phase I, we were told a construction contract would probably be let for bid in Aug; with construction to start in Oct; to be completed by Feb 2003.
