SWCA Thanks

Aug 29, 2004

We thank District 117 State Representative Ken Mercer for donating $150 to SWCA?—to add to SWCA?’s June decision to donate equal amounts of school supplies to the three elementary schools within our boundaries?—for needy students. We greatly appreciate his donation because it helped us double the supplies to each school. We like it when people join in to support efforts already underway, instead duplicating them.
We thank Mr. Richard Whitcher, of the Quarterhorse Saloon, for renewing his business membership in SWCA. Over the years, Mr. Whitcher has done many things to support people in our area. If you?’re an adult and have never been in his business, don?’t let the name scare you. While it is a liquor store, he also offers many non-liquor related items for the convenience of area residents.
Lastly, we thank the following for holding National Nite Out (NNO) block parties on Aug 3: Petra Martinez & Anita Acosta families; Armando Gamboa & Esteban Cruz families; Annie Gonzales family, Fannie Mann family, John Castro & Carole Abitz families. These member families did a lot of work to host these events and SWCA provided them some support. We believe these block parties are the true intent of NNO?—getting neighbor talking to neighbor about local crime and how to best look out for each other. How often does that happen at a big function? We also thank Mr. Whitcher of the Quarterhorse Saloon for supplying free ice to those 5 block parties.
