RE: Important Information – Hurricane Preparedness
Your local newspapers, radio and TV stations are providing up-to-date information on possible serious weather conditions, depending on where Hurricane Hannah makes landfall on the east coast of the United States. You should continue to monitor these services
The American Red Cross provides the following information:
Hurricane WATCH – hurricane conditions are possible in the specified area of the WATCH, usually within 36 hours.
Hurricane WARNING - hurricane conditions are expected in the specified area of the WARNING usually within 24 hours.
Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or local radio or TV stations for up-to-date storm information and follow the advice or instructions of local officials. Also check these websites: www.redcross.org or www.noaa.gov for important information.
Prepare your patios, and balconies – bring inside any outdoor furniture, outdoor decorations, ornaments, plants, trash cans, any loose or light-weight objects or anything that could be picked up by the wind.
Make sure you have fresh batteries for a portable tv or radio to stay informed. It is recommended to have non-perishable food, first aid supplies, drinking water and medications, special items for infants, elderly or disabled family members for several days.
Remember, if the electrical power goes out even for a short period of time, use flashlights to see in the dark if necessary – do NOT use candles.
