An interesting fact is today's Columbus Dispatch editorial on the COTA contract -- Vacation and sick days that employees accrue and cash out at retirement are paid out at the level of pay being received at retirement, not the pay rate when the vacation and sick days were earned.
Assuming our fiscally challenged PLSD offers the same generous back door pay raise to its employees perhaps this should be reviewed during the next contract session. The same review ought to extend to the city and all public entities supported by the taxpayer.

common for a reason
This sick/vacation package is structured this way for a reason, it encourages employees not to call in sick or take excess vacation if they value $$$. In this way the taxpayer gets an employee who can be rewarded for excellent attendance and work ethic. Some may view this as valuable asset...you do not pay for a sub and the employee at the same time which may be a savings for the taxpayer in the long run and possibly a better experience for the customer, taxpayer and student.
Sometimes I think taxpayers in this community would be happy with Chinese prison labor teaching our kids, that is the lowest pay bottom line isn't it....I believe you get what you pay for and when some of these same taxpayers...not all... buy seat licenses for pro sports, or take frequent trips to VEGAS... I know where their priority is...me..me...me...

3 Seats are open in November
Dear Only in America -
There are three seats open on the BOE in November - conservative thinking is needed. You can bet the PEA is out recruiting candidates that are union friendly.
From what I've heard there is NOTHING friendly about that union.

Run for BOE
Unions exist to get the best pay and benefits package for their members.
If you feel that strongly about it, please run for the BOE in the next election.
