DNR to lose over one hundred jobs.

"Can you give an example of a type of quantity?"   Yes, mallcommie!   Milliliters, gallons, parts per millions, gallons per minute, feet per second....what is the type of quantity you wish to argue about? You have provided none for Iowa nitrogen in the Gulf. You provided 28% and that remajins unproven as to what quantity that is! ha ha ha ha he he he he

Incidentally, it's parts per million, not millions.   What you wrote is meaningless.   It is also a ratio not a quantity.   Gallons per minute is a flow rate not a quantity.   Feet per second is a velocity not a quantity.

It's time to admit you erred.

To refresh your memory, this is what you posted before.

How would anyone know which nitrogen elements came from Iowa and Illinois, and in that type of quantity? That has to be nothing more than a guess from estimates.

Now that I know what you mean by "type", (I think) can you tell me which type of quantity you would use to measure nitrogen in the gulf.?   And what are the other options?   I would probably just use tons.

Hey, dorko...the qauntity is the 28% factor YOU posted!

Let's do a "reality" check here:

1.  The original post in this thread stated that Iowa had/has some of the poorest water quality in the nation ("..Iowa having some of the worst, if not the worst water quality of its streams and lakes in the nation..").  I showed that the DNR doesn't believe that.

2.  The thread then degenerated into an argument about how to measure "nitrogen" flowing out of Iowa.

3.  My research indicates that nitrates occur both naturally and from the ag industry.  It also shows that nitrates/nitrogen flow in Iowa is almost entirely related to rainfall, and the resultant amount of water available to "flow".   In other words, more flow produces more total nitrates flowing.

4.  This fluctuation in nitrates flowing is not a fluctuation in percentage relative to the water amount.   The percentage in the water remains about the same.  (Except when there is no rainfall [drought periods]. The nitrates only go up or down because rainfall goes up or down.

5.  Therefore, when adjusted for seasons, the quality of water as reflected by nitrate percent in the water remains pretty constant.  You only get more nitrates flowing when you get more water flowing.

It's kind of like saying "There are more germs in that swimming ppol than there are in this glass.  Therefore the quality of the water in the swimming pool is worse than in this glass!"

Yea...the story changed to that quickly after I posted the rest of the story relating that only three full time people were being laid off. The rest were contract and part-timers that aren't really employees in the loss of jobs and benefits realm. But hey, that's just how liberals like to twist things.

The quantity is 28%?   Of what?   That's not a quantity, it's a ratio like PPM.   It literally means 28 per 100.   There is a little Latin involved to get it to 28%.
