So like, where do you get your stats?  Like it's totally bogus.  It's like all funny and stuff. 

I have actually found msmal's stats more hilarious than funny - kind of like oh sh*t, I'm out on this limb now what happens - I guess I can try to baffle 'em w/ bull sh*it.

You measure the runoff from representative watersheds for representative times of the year and rainfall and use statistics to extrapolate those values to compute a value for the entire state.

Simple.

No sh*t involved except what contributes to the nitrogen runoff.

And when you are done, you issue a report (like the DNR does) and post a statement on your website.  A statement, in fact, that says Iowa has pretty good water quality.
