Wroe,

I don't know when this "supposinglly" happened, but, How did you ALMOST have an accident?  How did the tire ALMOST fall off?  Were you missing lug nuts?  What kind of damage did the "almost" fallen off tire do?  Why did they offer you $50?  Why not $20, OR $200?  I've worked with those people for over 2 years, and, there's ALWAYS someone in the "general public" that you can't please NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!  You are REQUIRED to sign the bill of sale that states "have your lug nuts checked/tightened AFTER 50 miles!  Did YOU sign the sheet?  Did you have the torque of the lug nuts CHECKED after 50 miles?  Who did you talk to to ATTEMPT to resolve your "problem".  I PERSONALLY know all the individuals that have worked the "desk" for the last 5 years, and, I KNOW that IF a situation came up like you are alluding to, that there wouldn't have been ANY mention of a $50 payment to make it right, but, would have made it right, TO YOUR SATISFACTION, no matter what the cost!  SORRY that YOU had a "BAD" experience, but, DON'T give folks the impression that they are taking THEIR lives in the own hands, IF they buy tires FROM Wal-Mart!  OF COURSE, you can ALWAYS buy them there, and, have them mounted/balanced, elsewhere.  Just MY thoughts.  Tom.

Tom - Off and on I can back up the last seven years. You stated your point very well. Kudos.

I can give you a couple of stories about my Wal-Mart shop experiences. I don't know if they still do it this way, but used to be, as soon as they pulled your car inside they'd check the oil immediately after shutting down the engine. My ticket always came back saying my car was 1 qt. low, most people with any mechanical knowledge would know that all the oil doesn't drain back to the oil pan 2 seconds after you turn the engine off. Believe me, I routinely check my oil, that vehicle was never an oil user, leaking or burning, minor but irritating to me anyway.

Next up, twice after having my oil changed there, I checked my oil level before I ever started it to leave the parking lot. Two times my normally 5 qt, capacity engine had 6 qts. in it. They did immediately remedy the problem by draining the oil back out, and refilling it, by the way it was Mobil 1 synthetic which ain't cheap. lol If you have your car serviced there, I would highly recommend checking the oil level before you ever leave there. Too much oil in the crankcase will lead to engine failure.

One other miscue by the Wal-Mart team. One of my trips there they checked my air filter, seems after checking it they misplaced the wingnut that holds the lid on the air cleaner assembly. I was told by the person in charge to go to Auto Zone and get a replacement nut since they didn't have any, then come back and they would refund my money for the wingnut. Needless to say that was my last Wal-Mart shop experience. I left there praying the nut didn't end up down the throttle body, and into a cylinder somewhere, fortunately I never had a problem with it due to that screw up.

Everybody makes mistakes, but three strikes, and you're out in my book.

One other story, a friend of mine got an oil change in his daughter'scar, about a week later the drain plug fell out while his daughter was driving the car. I think you can guess what happened, the engine locked up. This happened about 4 months ago. The one plus was Wal-Mart stood behind their work, either Wal-Mart's insurance company, or Wal-Mart, bought the car from them, actually paid them more for the car than they gave for it in the first place.

Out of 46,000,000 people I think you'll find way more than 3 disgruntled shoppers. I've been crapped on by Walmart a few times in the past. No need to start my own store. I just shop elsewhere.

One thing though. The only way to generate responses on this board lately is to trash either our radio station, the journal or Walmart or sheriff.Roll
