I agree that they could have registered earlier, but the point of election day registration is to encourage greater participation. If someone decides to vote at the last minute it's their privilege to do so. Informed or not, they have the right to vote. God knows we've got enough lo-information voters already, I don't think a few more is going to skew the system.

As for when the fines and punishments kick in, I do not know. I'm sure they have to be charged and tried, however, I believe that all non-ID-same day registration ballots are treated as provisional until they can be verified.

The point of it is so Democrats can go door to door at the last minute to get people to run out and vote the Democratic ticket and not being registered can't be an excuse to not go. Plus it makes it very easy for illegals to vote. Democrats are just biting at the lip trying to get the illegal aliens a chance to vote. They have to, the farther to the left they get the closer they are to running out of US citizens that will back them.

Trust me, if Republicans held the majority in Des Moines this would have never even been voted on. As it was, they fought against it with everything they had.

WTF? Are you implying that the Republicans can't benefit from same-day registration? Are you saying that Republicans don't engage in any GOTV efforts? If you are then you are sadly mistaken.

Try watching the video I posted. It's going to be pretty hard to get an illegal's vote counted. (While watching the video you may want to pull the blinds, though, to hide yourself from the black helicopters. Sheeeesh!)
