I have been wondering who pays for this site. Certinaly nothing in life is free. How is this thing financed? Do you sell our e-mail addys? Seems I have gotten a lot more spam since this site changed and I wonder if it is because of you guys.

Those guys with the banners at the top of the page - the fine folks at Muscatine Power and Water - are paying for the Muscatine site here on Neighborhood Link.

We do NOT sell your email addresses and never will.  Period.  I'm one of the more anti-spam folks you'll ever meet; I've been working hard since the late 80's (yikes) to get ISPs who host spammers to terminate their service (these vermin have to have an internet connection or they're out of business).  I also run the spam filters at our sister company (E.Central) which is extra motivation - more spam makes my job harder.  If Neighborhood Link ever sells email addresses, I leave.

We probably will give people a chance to sign up for an "announcement" type mailing list so we can notify you of upcoming changes to the site... but that email will be coming from no one but us and you won't get it unless you ask us to send it.

Of course, I could be just saying all that to make you feel good.  Google "tarrall spam" for some supporting evidence.

Spam is definitely on the increase, most recently due to virus-infected PCs that work as a group ("botnet") to send spam.  If your email address shows up in Google, or if a lot of people have it in their address books, or if you sign up for online sweepstakes or free game sites, you'll likely get more spam than the average person.  If this is the case, there's not a lot you can do aside from changing your email address (a major pain).

One good way to eliminate spam with your primary email account is to NEVER use it for ANYTHING except important things. Never use it for sweepstakes or playing games or freebies or anything like that. I use my Machlink account only for friends and paying bills online and have never gotten a single piece of spam in that account in years.

I have several Yahoo accounts I use for different things...they have pretty good spam filters and most of that stuff doesn't make it to my inbox. And also I never use my real name/address or any other identifying information on those accounts.

Tarall,  your communication with all is exceptional!  Thank you very much.  You don't take offense to replies; you answer them in a very clear & concise way.  Laughing  Thanks for the emoticons, by the way!  Some of us spoke, you listened!  HUGGS!  Tongue out  Keep up the good work; I know it's difficult to satisfy everyone's wants & needs.  We all wait with BAITED breath to see what is to come!!!  Cool

I agree................ However, is there a way to correct spam in a e-mail account once a person was stupid enough to allow access. Does the e-mail address have to be abandoned or can it be corrected?

Peace
