Victory= Coming home alive.

If my buddies and myself entered your home hoping to kill you and you took your trusty pea shooter and killed 1/2 of my buddies before your death would there be a need for the other 1/2 of my buddies and myself to stay in the your house? Lets say your family then began killing my buddies one by one hoping to rid the house of the intruders. If we then withdrew and gave back a house that was never ours to people we were never after how is it not victorious.
