Is there anything that I can have done regarding signal light from Cirby to Parkview? Since the completion of the road work we have had to wait for a long time for the signal to change. Previously, as you know when you stopped there was a minimal wait. Sometimes my wife and I will just bypass the light and use the Cottonwood entry.

Many residents of the Meadow Oaks neighborhood are exasperated with the exceedingly long delay of the left turn signal on Cirby at Parkview since recent completion of the repaving project. Please review the signal's timing.

Left turn light

Thanks for following up on this Jim. The other night I stopped to make a left turn and waited for three cars to go by and waited and waited, until a car came up from Parkview and the light changed for him to make a left turn, then changed for me. The longest time I have ever had to wait to make a left turn. I was even tempted to run the red – shame on me.

Thank you for your e-mail. Feedback from the public is useful information.

While we are always trying to minimize wait times for all traffic within the City, priority needs to be given to the higher volume roads. Cirby Way is one of our main roadways; therefore, the City coordinated the traffic signals along this road. Cirby Way between Sunrise and Rocky Ridge is coordinated
during the following times:
Monday through Friday, 07:00 to 09:00: Cirby Way between Sunrise and Oakridge. [for the AM commute]
Monday through Friday, 16:30 to 18:30: Cirby Way between Sunrise and Rocky Ridge. [for the PM commute]
The coordination of a corridor has to benefit the majority, and the majority use Cirby Way. Does this mean you will always be delayed every time? No. There will be times when you will arrive at the correct moment, and your approach will be served. It just depends when you arrive at this intersection. The signal controller knows you are there, but it cannot serve you until the appropriate time. It's like trying to get a table at a popular and busy restaurant during the dinner rush. They know you want a table, but the restaurant has to wait for that large party that made reservations. If that party does not show up, they give you the table. A similar scheme occurs with signal coordination. The time is reserved for the platoons arriving from the east or west. If no platoons show up in their reserved time slot, the signal controller serves the other approaches.
Sometimes you will see very little traffic on Cirby Way; either the platoon traveling from the east or traveling from the west has passed or will be arriving shortly. These platoons normally do not pass an intersection at the same time. Also, when an emergency vehicle pre-empts the signal several intersections away, it causes an interruption in the platoons travel, possible causing no platoons to arrive. Fire Station #3 is located on Cirby Way and causes disruption to the coordination when they exit in response to an emergency. Pedestrian movements may also impede the progression of a platoon of vehicles.
