Lansdowne Civic League

Recent information from Board of Directors

Sep 18, 2009

The Lansdowne Civic League has heard from several residents about residential break-ins in the neighborhood. Officers from CMPD Independence division have confirmed the following as of 9/16:

8/11: Folger Drive (residential burglary-breaking/entering unoccupied)
8/26: Jefferson Drive (residential burglary-breaking/entering unoccupied)
9/1: Wingrave Drive (attempted residential burglary-breaking/entering occupied)

Additional crimes were indicated on an independent website; however, CMPD has no other reported break-ins and suggested the website may be reporting 911 calls for service rather than actual crimes. If you have any concerns, feel free to consult the CMPD website or contact the Independence Division for further clarification.

We are also aware of at least one car break-in and at least one act of vandalism.

CMPD has increased patrols in the neighborhood and have encouraged us to report anyone or anything that looks suspicious no matter how minor. We suggest you check in with your neighbors more frequently and look out for one another.

• CMPD Independence Division non-emergency phone # is 704-841-1477.

• Exchange contact information with your neighbors so that if one of you sees something unusual, you can communicate with one another.

• After reporting a crime, let your neighbors know and notify the Civic League so that those around you can be made aware.

• If you are having work done on your home, let your neighbors know so they can be aware of activity that should be expected.

• Turn on your outdoor lights and trim over grown trees/shrubs around windows and doors.

• Vary your pattern of activity so your habits are not predictable.

• Watch for cars that do not belong, walkers in the neighborhood that look suspicious, or anything that could suggest someone is trying to learn about the area.

We will pass along confirmed information from the CMPD when possible via e-mail. We presently have about 145 e-mail addresses in our blast list, but that is less than 1/3 of our total homeowners, so while it is a quick way to communicate, we are not getting the word out to enough residents.

It has been a long time since we have had an active Neighborhood Watch program. For more information on starting a neighborhood watch program, go to: http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/CMPD/Community+Programs/Neighborhood+Watch/Home.htm
If anyone is interested in serving as either a Chairperson or a street/block captain, please contact the Lansdowne Civic League by e-mail or contact a member of the board listed below.
