New Resurfaced Pool Below Waterline

This fall many of you saw significant construction activity at our neighborhood pool. Your 2006 Board of Directors requested bids from four pool companies to repair leaks and provide a much needed face lift to our neighborhood pool. It was built in the late 1970’s and has not seen any interior improvements other than occasional leak patches and some brick coping improvements.
Olympic Pool Plastering’s bid beat out their competition in price and warranty, and with no subcontracted work. The job required Olympic to strip the old plaster down to the gunite, add two main drains in the deep end to meet Cobb County code, remove the old dated tiling that had seen better days, and replace it with a cobalt blue tile designed to match our brick coping. This blue tile throws off a beautiful deeper blue coloring to the waterline. Lastly, they patched all return jets, underwater lights, and vacuum lines for gunite leaks, and added a new revolutionary interior finish known as PebbleSheen® . Predominantly a hard stone finish of tightly fused polished pebbles, it creates the look of a natural stone surface that is more resistant to staining than traditional plaster/marcite.

The baby pool also underwent the same resurfacing process. We were told that the PebbleSheen® finish is less abrasive to our feet. Kids of all ages will appreciate that!
The Board also authorized the work to change out the sand in the two pool filters allowing our new pool to operate at optimum performance.
As a result of wise money management over the last several years, LCCI was able to approve the total costs of all improvements, approximately $16,500.00, without the need to levy a special assessment in addition to the yearly dues.
John Schaefer, the current LCCI board President was quoted as saying “our members ought to be very proud how the Board is spending their money! Again, LCCI has invested in another high quality job that will benefit both our members and non-members property values to the good! (Our first effort was the revitalized front entrance in 2005). Hopefully, more neighbors will catch on to the renewed interest in making Lake Colony a great place to live and volunteer to serve as Board members in 2007!” Editor’s note: After years of service, Mr. Schaefer will be stepping down from the Board at the Annual Meeting. We have big shoes to fill!
