A statement of Purpose

The J.O. Blanton House Tenants Association, Inc.(JOBHTA) will positively impact issues regarding Tenants Rights & Responsibilities, the health, safety and welfare of elderly and disabled persons throughout our community, support the provision of decent, safe and affordable housing for low-income, elderly and disabled persons, and to work toward the elimination of all forms of discrimination within the community.



Brief History of the JOBH Tenants Association, Inc.

In mid-June, 2002 Residents of the J.O. Blanton House, 850 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, Ky. sat out to organize themselves as a legitimate, recognizable, non-profit organization. (The J.O. Blanton House is a HUD assisted, multi-family hi-rise complex). They succeeded in their endeavor through careful planning; They established their identity-of-purpose; their organizational structure; they elected a six-member governing board. (Chairman, Secretary. Treasurer, and three Executive Members.)

The “Group” became officially known as, The J.O. Blanton House Tenants Association in July 2002, with a founding membership of forty members. In the latter part of August 2002, the Association published its Constitution and bylaws. In November 2002 the Association filed its Articles of Incorporation with the Secretary of State and received their corporate status, as a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization, in the first week of December 2002.

The First Known 501(C)(3) Resident Organization

The J.O. Blanton House Tenants Association, Inc., was the first reported, resident based organization in the State of Kentucky to receive corporate status as a 501(C)(3) non profit organization. Possibly, the first such organization in the U.S.A.

Empowerment Thru Participation

The JOBH Tenants Association, Inc. has demostrated its empowerment in the areas of Tenants Rights, awareness, communal responsibilities, health maintance, safe environment, and the overall general welfare of the community. Through the participation of its members and the participatory support of both local, and federal agencies, the Association has expeienced phenomenal growth in the year 2002
