The Harry Stone Crime Watch, "HSCW" was formed on December 8, 2004. We began this crime watch group to help reduce the crime in our neighborhood, begin to improve our area that has begun to look "unkept" and to join forces as neighbors to teach the children how to handle life's problems in todays world. We believe that this will help them want to be better citizens, feel better about themselves and also to have no desire to join a gang or get involved in criminal activity.
I feel like the park is the landmark that brings our community together. When I was young, the park had a creek that ran through the middle of it with little red bridges to cross over the creek every so often. Can you imagine what it would be like to see that creek restored? Can you also imagine how beautiful our park could one day be again with updates, improvements and new flowerbeds? I can and I plan to do something about it!
Our neighborhood is extremely unique! We have frame homes, brick homes, a City Park, swimming pool, tennis courts, one bank, two churches, an elementary school, a daycare center, and two shopping centers! Basically, we could do most of our errands within our neighborhood without ever leaving! How many other neighborhoods can say that?!
Let's work together to preserve this uniqueness that we have and make it a neighborhood that will become a template for other neighborhoods to follow.
With everyone's help, we can be the best of the best! All it takes is a little willingness to make one phone call, or talk to one neighbor. Let's all join together and make our area the #1 area in Dallas!
If you would ever like to make a donation, we do accept the following:

Our crime watch group is just that...a crime watch group. We are not a Neighborhood Association or Homeowners Association.
We are a totally volunteer group and do not charge any dues. Any person that volunteers is not paid for what they do when they help us. We operate solely on donations. Without them, there would be no money to print flyers, buy various materials needed for the crime watch, etc.
Below you will see instructions for our volunteers, and below that there is information for residents to let you know what you need to do with various information.
CHAIRMAN:
CO-CHAIRMAN:
The Co-Chairman is in charge of some the Chairman's duties in their absence. This will only apply to chairing meetings where the Chairman is unable to be present, or speaking with our Crime Watch liaison at the Dallas Police Department.
SECTION LEADERS:
Check e-mail or phone messages on a bi-weekly basis for messages from the Chairman.
Call or e-mail block captains in your Section with any information you receive from the Chairman. Let the Chairman know the results after you have finished, as needed.
Distribute crime prevention materials, etc., to Block Captains when received.
Set-up periodic meetings (about once every three months) within your Section with your block captains to stay informed of any changes and to discuss new ideas for other ways to improve our area.
Please contact the Chairman with ANY new information you may periodically receive from your Block Captains unless it pertains to the Business Section. If that is the case, then contact the Business Section Leader and he will contact the Chairman after researching the information (if needed).
There will be meetings about once every three months between all the Section Leaders and the Chairman.
There will also be meetings twice a year with the entire neighborhood.
Lastly, if you decide you are no longer are able to be a volunteer for any reason, please let me know and if at all possible, be willing to continue as Section Leader until we get a replacement and you have turned over any materials you have to me. I will help you find a new Section Leader. Whenever a Block Captain is no longer able to volunteer, they will turn over their materials to you for you to give to their replacement. You and I both will help them find a replacement.
BLOCK CAPTAINS:
Check e-mail and/or phone messages on a bi-weekly basis for messages from your Section Leader.
Distribute any information you receive from your Section Leader (as needed) to all houses in your assigned block area. Let the Section Leader know the results after you have finished.
Keep your Section Leader informed with any changes you have within your assigned block(s) and/or other duties. This will include new residents, move-outs, vacant houses, changes in a residents information, suspicious activity, graffiti, etc.
Please contact your Section Leader with any new information you may periodically receive from the residents in your assigned block(s) unless it pertains to the Business Section. If that is the case, then contact the Business Section Leader and he will contact the Chairman after researching the information (if needed).
Please get to know the people in your assigned block(s). Find out as much information as you can about each resident by delivering our Household Survey to each house and getting them to fill it out. Make note of any information you need from the survey, then give the originals to your Section Leader who will then give them to me to keep.
Lastly, if you decide you are no longer are able to be a volunteer for any reason, please let your Section Leader know and if at all possible, be willing to continue as Block Captain until we get a replacement and you have turned over any materials you have to your Section Leader. Your Section Leader and myself will help you find a replacement.
DUTIES OTHER THAN SECTION LEADER OR BLOCK CAPTAIN:
Shopping Centers (Gus Thomasson AND Oates Dr., Bank of America, Casa View Baptist Church; Harry Stone Tennis Courts; Harry Stone Swimming Pool; Edwin J. Kiest Elementary School...
Those assigned to these places of business will periodically drive through these areas to look for any signs of graffiti, suspicious activity, etc. Get to know the different contact people in the businesses, school, park, churches and bank and become aware of any concerns they have. Encourage them to become an active part of this Crime Watch Group. Distribute information as needed to each place. Tape neighborhood meeting notices on business windows, etc., that you have prior approval from.
STREET SIGNS, ETC...
Any street signs surrounding the Park or School areas that are need of repair or replacing, please contact the Business Section Leader.
As with all Section Leaders and Block Captains, if you decide you are no longer are able to be a volunteer for any reason, please let me know and if at all possible, be willing to continue as the Business Section Leader until we get a replacement and you have turned over any materials you have to me. I will help you find a replacement. If you are a volunteer as a Block Captain in one of the 1st four sections and also a volunteer under the Business Section, you will need to give your materials for Block Captain to your Section Leader and for your duties under the Business Section give your materials to me.
Please give any changes in personal information, etc., to your assigned Block Captain. They will be responsible for getting the information to the appropriate person to see that it gets taken care of. This will also apply if you have any criminal information you need to report. Get to know your neighbors. Find out there work hours, types of cars, driving in alley or not, phone numbers, emergency contact, etc. Above all else, please watch out for those that live around you and encourage them to do the same. Consider installing an alarm system in your home, motion lights at the rear of your home, landscape lighting around your home, a latch of some type at the top of each entry door and longer screws in each of your door lock strike plates at the entry doors. Lastly, watch out for kids that wander around the neighborhood. Gang activity is on the rise again!
Contact the appropriate person with ANY and ALL information in regards to our neighborhood.
Encourage your neighbors to do their part to help us get rid of the crime in our neighborhood, even if it's only to keep a watch out for the neighbors surrounding them. There are many older residents in our area that may want to make their contribution by writing a letter to a City official for something that our area needs or to stop an unwanted business from entering our area. We are currently setting up a "Letter Writing" committee for this purpose.
If you ever hear of any printing services, paper products for sale, ink for home printers, postage, etc., please let the appropriate contact person know. All of these items and more are the sole responsibility of our Crime Watch group.
We accept any size donation. Even if it's only 50 cents, it helps a lot! Of course, in lieu of cash, we would be happy to accept donations of products or services that we are also in need of.
We will always need donations to keep the Crime Watch afloat and to keep it functioning at a good level. However, if a resident does not donate anything, they are still welcome to be a part of our Crime Watch group. The bigger the Army, the more apt we are to win the war!
Lastly, if we all work together as a team, there's nothing we can't do. Each person is important no matter how big or small there contribution may seem. Let's help everyone know how important they are in this Crime Watch and strive to be the best Crime Watch Group that Dallas has ever seen!
