Our ambition and goal is to create awareness and advocacy for PDD.NOS., Autism, Asperger's and other similar disorders as they relate to parental and special education schooling.
This Group is not only for Great and Grandparents, it is open to any body and every body interested in Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders.
We are not experts, just Great Grandparents and Legal Guardians of a 16 yr old HS Junior that are willing to share and discuss our experiences and info gained on raising and special educationing with him the past five + years in Middle School, preparation for his intigration into High School, adapting to High School and now Transitioning to Adulthood.
We want to be involved in discussion and support with those interested with children involved in special education.
Our Desire is to reach out to inform and educate families. relatives, friends, neighbors, school adminstrators and teachers and every body in the community about children with the Pervasive Developmental Disorders.
These are not pyschological factors, they are neurological disorders that affect a child's ability to communicate, understand language, relate and play with others. Autism Spectrum and Asperger's Syndrome is affecting 1 in every 166 children born. It affects boys 4 to 5 times more than girls. Autism is not caused by ''Bad Parenting'' and children with PDD are not unruly kids who choose to misbehave.
Autism/Asperger's is a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction and educational performance in young children.
There is no known cure for Aujtism/Asperger's but evidence shows that the earlier the better intervention results in positive outcomes for the children.
Our Club name describes us as Great-Grandparents.
The Club is open ''FREE'' to ALL interested in Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Asperger's and Autism Spectrum Disorders, Rett's Syndrome and others.
