PAINT THE ?‘hood?’s BLIGHT OUT and the Neighborhood TOOLBOX

The Honorable JIM MADAFFER, Councilmember, District Seven, presented the Fox Canyon Neighborhood Association with a giant check for $15,000.00 from CDBG monies to fund the PAINT THE ‘hood’s BLIGHT OUT and the Neighborhood TOOLBOX programs.

With much anticipation, neighbors and guests gathered to welcome the distinguished visitor to the association’s meeting, last June 12, 2001. As Mr. Madaffer entered, his charisma filled the room. He received a spontaneous and enthusiastic round of applause from everyone in attendance.
Mr. Madaffer related to the membership the difficult process and the hard decisions made in allocating the CDBG’s funds available for distribution in District 7. “So many worthwhile programs and so little money to found them all,” He said. He also pointed out that most of the grants allocated by his office would benefit Fox Canyon either directly or indirectly. “Monies granted to the Euclid Avenue RAP will benefit Fox Canyon indirectly, as these monies will fund a retaining wall & new sidewalks at Home/Euclid, the gateway to our neighborhood,” the Councilmember said.

“Tonight, I have GOOD NEWS for Fox Canyon, in the process of allocating the CDBG’s monies, I have set aside funds to benefit the Toolbox and Paint the ‘Hood’s Blight Out programs. These two programs are an encouragement to residents to help stop the spread of blight throughout Fox Canyon and a powerful example of your volunteer work to many other communities in San Diego,” Mr. Madaffer said.

After the presentation of the grants, Councilmember Madaffer conducted the association meeting and actively engaged the membership in a lively discussion of neighborhood concerns and invited everyone to atted the clean up.
