Welcome

The Franklinton Neighborhhod Watch was started in April 1994 with a single block area, Dana Ave. betwen W. State and Town Street. The organization was started due to the crime in the area. As the months went by, we began adding more streets within the community, until we covered all of the Franklinton Area.

The Franklinton Neighborhood Watch over the years has worked with various city agencies making them aware of the problems within our community. We have gained their respect and cooperation in all areas. Quite frequently, The Mayor, the Safety Director, Members of City Council as well as the Police Chief and other political candidates can be found at our meetings.

We have been able to obtain government grants to aid our community efforts. One such grant provided the development of Cody Park on W. Park at W. State St. The city would not our request for speed humps, but did begin a pilot project for speed control called Traffic calming lines.

The Franklinton Neighborhood Watch is controlled by the community. There is no agency within City, State, or Federal government that can excerise any control over us. We receive no salaries or any type of payment. We are all 100% volunteers. What funding we do receive, comes from donations or funds from grants. The money is very little and covers supplies such as paper and ink for our printers and postage. None of the organizators of the Franklinton Neighborhood Watch works for Gladden Community House, the Franklinton Broad of Trade, the City of Columbus or the Franklinton Area Commission.

The Columbus Police department is represented at all of our meetings by the Sergeants from Precinct 8, frequently accompanied by other officers from our precinct. This allows the citzens of Franklinton to air their complaints and report specific problems. The Officers then do their best to work on and eliminate these problems. Due to this reporting, many drug houses have been closed down, arrests for drugs made, as well as other problems solved.

Our goal is to continue to make this community better. We are aware that there are many people in the area who rent their homes. It is our objective to help make sure that the rental properties in Franklinton are kept in good, and safe living condition and that the property is maintained so that trash, abandoned automobiles, and falling down houses are not representatives of Franklinton. When we see these problems they are reported to the proper agencies for action to be taken so the problem can be corrected.

The problems in the area are slowly being worked on and going away. To continue the problem solving, we need the continued attendance of all Franklinton residents at our monthly meetings. You need to keep telling the Police officers about the problems in your neighborhood. You are the eyes and ears of the community. YOU ARE THE FRANKLINTON NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH.
