An Obligation for a Mega Privilege

In May, 2006, Campaign Neighborhood - CFNBA launched a Wi-Fi Initiative to help ensure that People of Color and the Working Poor of Milwaukee have ACCESS to the Wireless Network. It is called, LINKING WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY TO INNER CITY MILWAUKEE.

The Network is built by Midwest Fiber Networks, LLC -- a Milwaukee-based and female-owned company.

The project is to roll-out by the end of 2007. The Agreement with Midwest Fiber is for 20 years (14 years Agreement and 6 year add-on).

ACCESS
It is crucial that clear ways and means are available for People of Color and the Working Poor to have access. Having an "antennae" on a telephone pole outside of a house or building do not mean you are a 100% Wireless City.

POPULATION
Milwaukee is a majority People of Color Urban City with a population of approximately 600,000.

It has some real serious issues of "poverty" and "unemployment" that must be factored in. They include:

79% - Poverty (African American - 41% and Latino - 38%)

65% - Unemployment (African American)

The two percentages affects access especially since laptops start at $500.00, plus one must have a monthly fee of $20.00 to "go online". This is problematic since many families are facing basic eating and housing deficits. Milwaukee has approximately 7,000 children from homeless families.

OPPORTUNITIES
CN-CFNBA see the advent of Wireless Milwaukee as not only a jumpstart but a way to help solidify the gap of high unemployment and poverty.

Access to the internet via each home or most homes and businesses (at first) opens another road of ACCESS. Access to new careers, access to business-2-business opportunities, access to the job market, access to other cities, states and countries around the world.

It will help improve quality of life - access to knowledge for training, access to data, a way of completing applications for jobs or training, municipal information, safety, banking needs, health alternatives, and day-to-day conveniences.

LINKING WIRELESS
CN-CFNBA is busy working on a 24-month Awareness Campaign to educate the residential, commercial, light industrial and institutional (church/school/medical/social) stakeholders of their obligation to GET PRIVILEGE. We are also providing alternatives for business development and channeling distribution for Internet Service Providers, Developers and Contractors.

Stay tuned.
