Dog Barking

Posted in: Ballymeade

Telling a dog owner to move to the country because a dog is barking? WWJD? Maybe the problem is judgemental unfriendly neighbors? Dog owners, I own dogs, too. My dogs don't bark because they are bored or cold because I give them enough time to do their business then come inside. I also trained them, from puppies, that barking is frowned upon. They do see a squirrel from time to time, or a passerby initiates protective barking but I have good hearing and immediately bring them in. That said, my neighbor must have terrible hearing and has admitted to me that if her dogs are "annoying her" she puts them outside for great lengths of time. While this is the city (lots of noise) we should all do our part not to contribute to noise pollution. Law states excessive barking is 10 minutes or more. Why not limit unattended bathroom breaks to 10 minutes? We are Americans. We have the right to live where we choose. We have the right to have children and own dogs. Maybe if you're so bothered by barking, you might be happier in the country? Either way, no one should tell you to move. We live in close proximity. We have to learn to co-exist. -Dawn Lentz
