About PEMA

The Parkway East Merchants Association (PEMA) is an organization comprised of business and property owners, entrepreneurs, merchants and neighbors, to provide a single effective voice for the Parkway East area of Birmingham. PEMA's goals are to promote an environment of communication, cooperation and support for local businesses.

PEMA is an organization where your input counts. We focus on issues that matter to you, like business development, local government, market trends and new technologies. Collectively, we are a strong voice in how business gets done in the eastern Birmingham area. Our programs include:

Networking

Developing strong professional relationships is one of the most important investments a small business owner can make. Through referral networks, events and committees, the Parkway East Merchants Association  provides opportunities for business leaders to meet one another and grow their referral base.

Marketing & Branding

Cash Mob: East Birmingham is a movement run by the East Lake Arts District and extended to neighboring districts to encourage and focus on small business. Cash Mob: East Birmingham is all about promoting & supporting locally-owned, independent businesses. It’s about making your hard-earned money go further, fueling the local economy, & helping to preserve the unique character of East Birmingham.

 Information Sharing

PEMA membership gives you access to seminars and workshops on topics ranging from local economic trends to financial management tips to innovative ways to market your business.

Annual Analysis Forum is an annual forum bringing together local merchants, potential developers, businesses and government leaders to examine the impact of retail on the overall local economy.

District Security

Parkway Security Network helps members of the community, the media, businesses and police work together to prevent and solve crimes.

Advocacy

PEMA will form and maintain strong working relationships with City of Birmingham and Jefferson County Commission in the interest of issues that impact small businesses.
