Coming Home

On December 3, 2004, Samonia acquired 636 NE 14th - and she moved back to the neighbourhood in which she had grown up, her parents having moved in to a house on Culbertson in 1976. At that time, her father, the late Howard L. Meredith, worked for the Oklahoma Historical Society and was instrumental in setting up the State Office of Historic Preservation.

Moving In and Joining Up

And within a very short time, she became a member of the Neighborhood Association Board. She served two years as President.  Now serving as Secretary, she is active in keeping the progress going in helping get the neighbourhood to realise its full potential. She is also a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Capitol-Medical Zoning Commission.

Walking to Work

Samonia goes up to her mother's house on Culbertson where she works as a personal assistant. She also uses the family membership at the OUHSC Faculty House for luncheon meetings, along with Papa Dino's pizza for delivery and George's Happy Hog for barbeque.

Home Improvement

Currently there is a lot of work going on at the house.  What started with what was thought to be a leak from the roof turned out to be a much larger plumbing issue, with pipes all over the house and to the street needing to be replaced, along with two bathtubs.  Since ceilings were already torn out, two ceiling fixtures, updated cables, etc., have been added, and those ceilings along with many walls are being smoothed back out to period appropriate finishes.  The plaster work in the dining room has been preserved, and period appropriate crown moulding will be installed.  Plans are in the works for a new kitchen design, as well as for the garage/garage apartment.  All handled by the capable hands of Rex Massey Construction.

Fresh Faces

Though Samonia has spent most of her life in the neighbourhood, her husband Dennis is new to the area, but already enthusiastic about what it takes to maintain an older home and has attended/participated in many of the neighbourhood events.  His two sons, Daniel and Michael, will also be calling Lincoln Terrace one of their homes.
