Storm Water Services
Monthly Volunteer

Can you be-LEAF it’s already fall? With all this beautiful weather coming our way, it will be a great time to enjoy the outdoors and make a positive impact in your community. Check out all the ways you can volunteer this month.

Volunteer Spotlight!

This month we are spotlighting Greg P. as the Volunteer of the Month for September! Greg has participated in several of our 2nd Saturday and VolunThursday events over that past year and always comes with the determination to get as much trash as he can. We appreciate you so much for bringing such great energy with you every time! Way to go Greg!

Don’t leave the leaves,

With leaves beginning to fall, this is the perfect time of year to participate in our Adopt-A-Drain Program! If you live near a drain in Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, or Davidson, you can participate! By participating in this program, you will check your adopted drain once a month and make sure it is clear of any debris or trash. You can monitor the storm drain for any pollutants, damage, or odors and report these issues to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) by calling 311. Additionally, reminders will be sent out by CMSWS before forecasted heavy rains so that volunteers can ensure the storm drain(s) are free of debris so rain can quickly enter the drain. Check out our page for more details and to sign up for the Adopt-A-Drain Program!

Calling All Students!

Community service is often an important part of clubs such as National Honors Society, Beta Club, and IB programs! Volunteering with us is a great way to make an impact in your community while also fulfilling some of the volunteer hours needed to participate in these great organizations! There are many ways to volunteer with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services. We host at least two volunteer events each month or you can participate in our other programs such as Adopt-A-Stream, Volunteer Monitoring, Storm Drain Marking, Adopt-A-Drain, and Tree Maintenance! Check out our Volunteer page to learn about how you or your team can get involved or email

Creek ReLeaf!

The Creek ReLeaf Program is a collaborative effort of the Charlotte Public Tree Fund, Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, and dedicated volunteers and financial supporters to plant trees in riparian areas (floodplain and stream buffers) of Mecklenburg County. This year, Creek ReLeaf will occur on November 18th from 9am to 12pm and volunteers will be planting native trees along the new section of the Long Creek Greenway near the intersection of Northlake Center Parkway and WT Harris Blvd. For more info and registration check out The Creek ReLeaf Program site.

Remember yard waste should only go out to the street or right of way the day prior to pickup!

Putting yard waste on the curb early leads to more chance of rain washing it down into the storm drains causing issues with pollution and flooding.

Consider Adopting A Storm Drain near your home and help keep it clear.

Storm drains all drain to creeks!
