Some of the WRA's Accomplishments

Throughout the Years

● Prevented the construction of a 13-story building at Federal Ave. & Olympic Blvd. (the present site of the Public Storage building.)
● Maintained low-density residential zoning throughout the neighborhood by opposing numerous projects seeking excessive zone changes.
● Bus #5 moved off Federal Avenue
● Permit Parking established (as requested by residents)
● Assisted in tree planting on Colby and Butler Avenues.
● Sponsored the Mural at Nora Sterry Elementary School
● Negotiated traffic and noise mitigation measures for several large projects, including the Wilshire Blvd. Temple and the Westside Media Center.
● Supported Ralph's Grocery Store at Barrington/Olympic
● Supported Day Labor Site on Exposition/Sawtelle
● Helped negotiate traffic mitigation at Marshall's on Sawtelle/Olympic
● Helped negotiate building and design of Public Storage on Sawtelle/Olympic
● Helped negotiate the Sawtelle Storage project on Sawtelle
● Negotiated to have City Dump Trucks re-routed from neighborhood streets to major thoroughfares.
● Initiated Neighborhood Watch Programs
● Supported the Gabrieleno/Tongva Springs Foundation on in their fight to stop a 25-story project on Barrington.
● Opposed commercial advertising in residential zones
● All stop signs installed for area from Beloit to Barrington and Santa Monica Blvd. to Olympic.
● Helped in the fight to stop the 18-story project on Wilshire/Barrington
● Supported the proposed off-leash dog-park at the Barrington Park.
● Assisted in the organization of opposition to the operation of and advertisements for totally nude juice bars, bikini bars and other adult entertainment businesses in the WLA area
● Successfully fought off over-development at Butler/Olympic.
● We represent the WRA at West Los Angeles Community Police Advisory Board, Neighborhood Council, Voluntary Surveillance Team and Neighborhood Code Watch.
● Helped negotiate between the YMCA and the neighbors on the conditions for a parking lot on La Grange and Corinth.
● Lobbied for the establishment of the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program.
● Engaged in working towards the revitalization of the Civic Center.
