West Brighton Community Local Development Corporation

A Great Place To Live !

West Brighton, a small town located on Staten Island's North Shore, was originally part of Castletowne, the estate of Colonel Thomas Dongan, Royal Governor of New York during the 17th century.

The community offers an extensive stock of Victorian and turn-of-the-century houses. Many of the stately homes found here were built by former sea captains who sailed from the North Shore's numerous ports. Some of the smaller homes were originally constructed to accommodate the increasing needs of factory workers as the area evolved into an industrial center during the 1800's.

There are two parkes in West Brighton, Walker Park, a 5.2 acre haven where the first game of lawn tennis in American was played, and Corporal Lawrence Thompson PArk, encompassing 10 acres. Also, the Staten Island Zoo, with its world renowned reptile collection and Rain Forest exhibit is located here, as is the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, which houses art exhibits, concerts, the SI Children's Museum and the SI Botanical Garden.

A Great Place To Do Business!

From national retailers to local grocery stores, from professional offices to the finest craftsmen, West Brighton boasts a wide range of business along its three major commercial corridors, Forest Avenue, Castleton Avenue and Richmond Terrace.

Forest Avenue, with its modern, suburban-style shopping centers and speciality stores, is one of Staten Island premier shopping districts.

Historic Castleton Avenue features a large concentration of automotive businesses, a cluster of home an doffice furnishing establishments, as well as a health care complex anchored by St. Vincent's Medical Center and aq legal arts complex adjacent to the Civil Court. Moreover, the main branch and executive offices of the Richmond County Savings Bank are located on Castleton Avenue.

Richmond Terrace offers artisans and manufacturers the many financial benefits of the NYS Empire Zone, as well as excellent access to the regional goods transportation network.

Whatever the nature of your business, there is an ideal location awaiting you in West Brighton.
