About our association

In the begining.... West Adams Neighborhood Council starts.....

Origin
In June of 2000 a steering committe was formed in the efforts to lay a foundation for the creation of the West Adams Neighborhood Council. The following members were among the first to begin the organizing process:

Ignacio Luquin, Co-Chair
June 2000

Jesse Dennis, Co-Chair
June 2000

Duke Wilson, Treasurer
June 2000

Taneda Jordan, Secretary
Feb 2001

The steering committee is largely supported by Councilman Nate Holden's office. Field Deputy Sylvia Lacy has been an essential part of the organizing effort. She has supported our efforts by providing key resources to all stakeholders currently seeking Certification as a Neighborhood Council.

Outreach

A variety of strategies were utilized in order to solicit participation from all stakeholders within the West Adams Neighborhood Council area. The following is a list of methods used to inform stakeholders of the Steering Committe meetings:

1. Mailings
2. Phone-Banking
3. Door-to-Door flyer distribution
4. Night out Against Crime Walk
5. E-mail/Website

Attendance can vary from meeting to meeting but we are strongly committed to the inclusiveness of everyone who identifies his/her self as a stakeholder. To date we have held over 16 community meetings using the above mentioned outreach methods to insure inclusiveness.

Certification Readiness

Currently West Adams Steering Committee has been recognized in the Eight Empowerment Newsletter and a report given to the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) as a group likely to be Certified in October.
