United Neighborhoods-a certified Los Angeles Neighborhood Counci

As of May 14, 2002, we are proud to have been certified as the 30th officially recognized neighborhood council in Los Angeles.

Our history:

For the past two years, since the people of Los Angeles voted to add Neighborhood Councils to the L.A. Charter, neighbors have been meeting the first Thursday of every month to create United Neighborhoods, a proposed Neighborhood Council.

During the past two years we have come up with a name defining our neighborhood council (United Neighborhoods of the Historic Arlington Heights, West Adams and Jefferson Park communities), we have drawn up by-laws, and we are working towards getting certification from the City.

In order for every area within our boundaries to have representatives on the Board, we split our area into 6 regions. Most of these regions have neighborhood associations or Neighborhood Watch groups who have elected representatives to sit on the Board.

On December 28, 2001, we submitted our application for certification. We are awaiting word for our hearing for certification. In the meantime, we are making plans for what we need to do once we are certified (i.e., notice to the community, elections).

Schedule of regular board meetings

At our regular board meeting on January 9, 2003, it was moved and voted that our regular board meetings will take place every other month beginning in February. Therefore, we will meet in every even numbered month, the first Thursday of that month.

We have a new meeting place for board mtgs.

Beginning with our February 6th, 2003 board meeting, we will holding our regular board meetings at Mt. Vernon Middle School on 17th Street at Bronson, in the library, at 6:30 PM.
