Our Purpose and Mission

The purpose and mission of the organization is to improve the quality of life, keep our community safe and aesthetically appealing, and provide support for youth and families. The TIDE-MILL-MACHEN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION was formed in October of 2005. Our purpose and mission support the guiding principles of the Hampton Neighborhood Initiative through our on-going efforts to ensure that our community is a valuable asset to Hampton, strengthen families, engage youth in community projects, keep our neighborhood safe, and make Tide-Mill Machen community a place where people are proud to live.

Organization Structure

The Association’s membership is comprised of residents (homeowners and renters), businesses, and churches.
The composition of our organization does reflect the people who are impacted by it. The Association meets monthly from September to May, using the “Roberts Rules” of order for business, although there may be some activities scheduled throughout the year as desired by the membership. All decisions, priorities, and projects are deicide by majority vote from the membership. However, the Board meets on an as needed basis and schedule special meetings at the request of the members to discuss and plan future projects. The Executive Board consists of the President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and the Parliamentarian, Chaplin and Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. The Executive Board’s role is to provide leadership and make sure the Association abides by the Articles of Incorporation.

Activities-Planning and Implementation

The leadership and strength of this organization is reflected by the steady increase in membership, active participation in activities, and the continual planning of projects for the community by our Planning Committee.
The Planning Committee is chaired by our Vice President, who is assisted by dedicated residents of the community, who have accomplished activities, such as:

-Walk –A-Thon -Neighborhood Clean-Ups -Health Workshops
-Boy Scout Activities -Identifying any Crime areas -Website
-Christmas Activities -3 X 3 Basketball Tournaments -Yard of the month
-Easter-Egg Hunt -Yard Sale -Masquerade Ball

Volunteers are recruited at the general membership meetings. This method continues to be successful. Recruitment is being conducted for participation in the following activities:

-Youth Basketball Team -Movie-Thons -Hampton Holly Days Parade
-Transportation for seniors who have a desire to participate in meetings and activities

Every resident in the Tide-mill area, from infant to senior, is given the opportunity to be involved and/or participate in all events, which brings us together as a unified community, and stimulates pride, unity, integrity, and respect among each family which reside in our neighborhood. All decisions, priorities, and projects are deicide by majority vote from the membership. The Planning Committee, who includes and encourages all residents to be active in suggesting/recommending activities to strengthen and fulfill our purpose and mission. It should be noted that the Association has had a successful collaboration with the Neighborhood Youth Advisory Board and neighborhood youth in recruiting and organizing a basketball tournament.
