I moved here 3 years ago with my 2 young boys.  In the 3 years we have been here, the community pool has been out of commission, we've had guest's vehicles towed illegally, and we've been warned on several occasions that my children are not allowed to do anything outside except play basketball, on the BB court.  The children here are not allowed to ride bikes, skateboards, roller blades or explore the trees and shrubs to make "forts"!  What is there for a 7 and 11 year old boy to do?  Get into trouble, that's what!  If you take all forms of entertainment away from a child, they are going to find SOMETHING to do!  Usually, it's not productive, and tends to become destructive.  The home owners of SKTH's need to change the CC&R's, and allow FAMILES with young children to live comfortably in the community.  I can not let my children out of our home without fear of being written up and receiving a fine!  This is ridiculous!  I chose this place to live because it is a gated community and I felt my children would be safe.  Little did I know, my children and I, would be harassed every time one of us left the house!  I'm ready to call a lawyer!  Isn't this age discrimination?  Everyone else is allowed to use the common areas...but not the children!!  Someone please help me!

Sincerely,

A very sad resident

You did not mention if you are a homeowner or if you rent. If you are a homeowner you were issued a copy of the CCR'S and a copy of the Rules and Regulations. If you lease your Home, the Landlord is required to issue you a copy of these documents.

The CCR's and Rules and Regulations are very consistant with other Home Owner associations Nationwide. They are written for the safety of all residents and property in the community. It was your responsibility to read these documents prior to moving into a community with Home Owner Association Rules. That is what makes the community safe and appeal able to reside.

You decided to move into a community that is not presently designed for children's activities, and it is your responsibility to provide your child's entertainment and productive activities. I also have children, but I have them in scheduled sports and constructive activity outside of this community.

The streets in this community are not safe for adults or children to play. To even suggest allowing your child to build a fort, walk through bushes or climb the community tree's is absolutely ludicrous and frankly irresponsible of you as a Parent. The trees and landscaping becomes damaged with this type of use and forts are illegal and a dangerous liability to the community.

The rules apply to all equally, adults and children. I suggest you take your children to the park on Mariposa a few blocks away but you will probably be told by the park officers that forts can not be built nor can your children damage shrubs to explore.

The fact  you find the rules that have been in place for years in this community should not apply to your family is Sad.

I might not agree with every rule and regulation, but it is my responsibility as an adult to follow them all since I decided to move into this Home Owners Association.

Good REPLY!  This is definitely a renter with no investement in the property.  They moved into a GATED Community so they could turn their kids out and let the rest of us deal with them.

This family needs to move!
