Purpose:
The essence of the neighborhood watch program primarily revolves around each person knowing each of their individual neighbors surrounding their individual home. By knowing the neighbors and knowing the neighbor’s routines and habits, there becomes a reason to be suspicious when some event falls out of those habits and routines. Appropriate action can then be taken to prevent crime in the neighborhood.

The Town of Collierville Police sets up these programs and they will assist with education, brochures, stickers, etc., to help develop a program.

The requirements are:
One neighborhood Coordinator
a. Maintains Neighborhood Directory and Map with names, addresses and
phone numbers.
b. Distributes directory to block captains.
c. Coordinates activities with Collierville Police, i.e., block parties,
National Night Out, etc.
d. Acts as the liaison with the CPD and directs alerts via telephone tree or
e-mail.
Assistant Coordinator
a. Is the backup contact for the Neighborhood Watch for the Collierville Police Department and functions as Coordinator in the absence of the primary.
Block Captain
a. Maintains and updates contact information for 8 to 10 homes.
b. Introduces Neighborhood Watch to newcomers.
c. Assists in telephoning or e-mailing the 8 to 10 homeowners in case of an alert.
Block Watcher
a. To get to know the neighbors on each side and across the street to contact the Collierville Police Department in cases of crime or suspicious activity.
