VOTE YES on BOTH on May 13th

SaveBraintree
is a growing organization of Braintree citizens who are working diligently to save our town?’s essential services and education system from the impending devastating budget cuts.

Our Mission is to educate the Braintree voters and advocate for a YES VOTE on BOTH ballot questions on the May 13, 2003 ballot. Passing both ballot questions is needed to maintain an acceptable level of town services.

THE ISSUE

Due to rising costs and massive state budget cuts, Braintree is facing a projected $6.7 million deficit for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003. The cuts to services will seriously jeopardize public safety, education and the overall quality of life in Braintree:

. Police - layoff 12-16 officers; eliminate the DARE Program
?· Fire - layoff 9-14 firefighters; close 2 firehouses
?· Education - layoff 75 teachers; close two schools; eliminate numerous programs
?· Seniors + - Reduce services

THE SOLUTION

*VOTE YES on BOTH on May 13*

?· Ballot Question #1

-A YES Vote would approve a DEBT EXCLUSION OVERRIDE
-Restores $2.1 million to budgets
-Cost would be 37 cents per day in the first year for a home assessed at $300,000
-Cost diminishes each subsequent year and disappears after 14 years
-Tax deductible
AND

?· Ballot Question #2

-A YES Vote would approve a PROPOSITION 2-1/2 OVERRIDE
-Restores $2 million to budgets
-Cost would be 33 cents per day in the first year for a home assessed at $300,000
-In future years, property tax growth will again be limited to 2-1/2%
-Tax deductible

An anticipated shift in the tax rate will result in commercial taxpayers paying more property taxes.

YES on both questions will cost 70 cents a day or less for a home assessed at $300,000.

For less than the cost of a cup of coffee, you can ensure Braintree?’s ability to provide essential services for all of its residents, while continuing to maintain one of the lowest tax rates in the state
