Beware of "Dish Network" solicitors late at night - Possible scam?

Posted in: Castlegate

Not sure where you got 9:00 PM being sunset time in March (it isn't even that late now in June!), but according to this, sunset was at 6:33 PM, therefore, by 7:30, yes, it would have been DARK for sure (not just sun setting).

Since you are in AZ, obviously, we are not in the same region to speak about how it looks like at 6:33pm here in TN. Daylight savings time started at 2am of March 10 (google that!), and even before that, I was knocking on doors until 8:30pm-9pm. I know because I had several sales after 7pm before March 10. I do make arrangements for customers if that's the only time they would be home from work and they made an appointment with me prior to. If they're not home during the time they said they will be, I will try to make contact with their nextdoor neighbor. Maybe that's what happened to that Dish rep.

There is always two sides to every story.

For your reference, this is the PROPER page to look at regarding DST: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=171&month=3&year=2013&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1

FOR SURE, you have no idea of how the door-to-door business works. If you are in a well-lit neighborhood, sunsets do not prohibit us from knocking on doors (especially if our peddler permits allow us to be outside until such time).

Also, if the man was asked to leave "at" 7:30pm, FOR SURE, the contact was made PRIOR TO that -- which could be before sunset -- AND THERE IS NO WAY OF TELLING whether the poster referred to the "exact" time or not. A sales spiel can take from 30 seconds to 3 hours, depending on how many objections a customer raises and how they were positioned. From the post itself, the customer said he/she asked the man to leave "repeatedly" without saying how he asked him to leave. If I was the door-to-door rep and you are just giving me subtle clues, I would address each and every objection you would raise upon me, make sure that you are aware of your options and my role as your local service provider, until you EXPLICITLY tell me that I am no longer invited at your doorstep.

I maybe incorrect about the daylight savings time, and I do stand corrected. But almost a quarter of an hour difference in our respective DST's IS A LOT OF TIME. Door-to-door is a widely accepted business practice here in TN and the rest of the Southern territories, unlike in AZ. We take good care of our folks here because the "Southern Hospitality" is alive and kicking in this part of the country.

Obviously you do not live here.  If you did, you'd realize that your statements are silly.  Arizona does not participate in daylight savings time.  And, we do not have street lights either.  Again, maybe you shouldn't comment on posts when you do not live in the region.  Considering the OP lives here as do I, and we're both aware of the area and the issues we've been having with supposed door to door sales people (who are really criminals), the original post was spot on.
