How Does It Work?

What's the Deal?

ELIGIBILITY

The SHARE Food Program is open to anyone that wishes to participate. There are no income guidelines and SHARE won’t affect any other benefits you may be receiving, such as TANF, General Assistance, Social Security or Food Stamps. SHARE Food accepts no state or federal funding and no donated food.

FOOD OPTIONS

Food units consist of meats, poultry, fish, potatoes, onions, assorted fruits and vegetables, pastas, etc. The items vary, but always include 5-7 pounds of frozen meat, 3-4 fresh fruits, 4-5 vegetables and staple items such as rice, lentils, or pasta. There are no canned items.

A Meatless Unit is available for $8.00.

There is also an Extra Meat item offered each month for separate purchase. These items vary in price and you can purchase as many as you would like, or pass up the offer, your choice. An example of an extra meat item could be a boneless, marinated beef rib eye roast or a Cook’s Sugar Tree Hickory Smoked Ham. You must order the extra meat when you order your regular box.

WHAT IT COSTS

For $15.00 ($14 cash or food stamps and a $1 cash trucking fee) you can get over 20 pounds of food. You may order as many food units as you would like. Each food unit also comes with a monthly newspaper that includes interesting articles from the SHARE Food Program, recipes for using the food included in that month’s package, and a preview for the next month’s food unit.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

All participants are required to perform 2 hours of monthly volunteer community service. Assisting an elderly neighbor, church or other committee work, reading to children in a school or library setting all qualify. Special arrangements are made for those disabled or shut-in, which affords them an opportunity to participate.

How Do I Join?

Come to one of our sign-ups. Bring your money for each food unit or added value item that you wish to purchase. You will be given a receipt and told the date and time to pick up you food unit(s).

All food must be ordered and paid for in advance, early in the month, so that the proper amount of food can be ordered. You can sign up on pick-up day for the following month. There are additional sign-up times during the first week of the month.

Where Do I Sign Up?
